The End of Suzy Stumbles Over Travel

September 13, 2010 By Suzy

If you haven’t heard, I decided to end the “Suzy Stumbles Over Travel” segment on my site (dry your tears). This past week was the last week you could submit your travel posts to be read, commented, stumbled and tweeted.

Since I began this series in April, I have really enjoyed helping out the travel blogging community and new writers looking for some notice. I know some of you are disappointed I am stopping the series, but I hope you know how much I enjoyed doing it. Unfortunately it does take a full workday of time each week for me to do and I want to focus on other projects for this site. I will hopefully find another fresh idea toward helping out my fellow travel writers. In the mean time, if you ever need a stumble or reader, don’t hesitate to ask (suzy [at] suzyguese [dot] com).

Here are the last five favorites in travel submitted last week.

The 5 Favorites In Travel Last Week

“Words Can’t Explain a Life-Changing Travel Experience” From Globetropper

Submitted by Lauren

Lauren returns home after experiencing some life changing travel experiences. I could completely relate to her sentiments of being home yet having these experiences you can’t really share with that world.

“Where Are You From? A Nomad’s Guide To Asking and Answering The Question” From Uncornered Market

Submitted by Audrey

There must be something in the air with travel posts addressing home this week. Uncornered Market hones in on the quintessential travel question, “Where are you from?”. I thought their discussion was interesting. For me, what does it matter, but it is a question all travelers will face at some point or another.

“The Handyman of Via Bad Soden” From I Eat My Pigeon

Submitted by Liv

I couldn’t resist selecting Liv’s exchange with a handyman in Italy over complaints of smelling gas in her apartment. The dialogue resonates with travelers that have dealt with foreign landlords and customs. In Italy, the “don’t worry about” attitude rings true throughout the country. Cultural lessons may be great on the streets of a city, but a simple conversation with a handyman proves just as insightful and telling.

“One Unforgettable Day at Patara Elephant Farm” From Pause The Moment

Submitted by Ryan

For your viewing pleasure, Pause The Moment take us on a travel experience you might not have everyday, hanging out with elephants. While in Chiang Mai, the duo visit the Patara Elephant Farm. It was nice to have an experience I’m not sure I would have through their eyes. Elephants seem so gentile that it is hard to imagine them any other way. Travel isn’t just about meeting people. It is also about meeting its animals.

“Montmartre chéri- Montmartre forever” From Prête-Moi Paris

Submitted by Prete Moi Paris

Finally I leave you with some charming photos and words on Montmartre in France. I enjoyed the mental travel to this French town, one that seems to wear a number of hats.

Thank you for all of the great submissions every week!

Suzy, I just love your theme here and how clean the layout is. Twitter postage stamps is a nice touch. Unfortunately looks like I found you when a good segment was coming to a end. I understand though, maintaining a travel blog is like a second job but I’m sure some exciting fresh ideas will surface. I think I literally pull a double everyday..lol.

I have a travel blog community where I allow article submissions at 100% adsense revenue sharing and you can also submit a link in our free links directory. I like your sentiment of helping other travel bloggers and I guess this is our attempt to do the same. This is really such a tuff endeavor. Cheers, keep up the good work.

Thanks for doing this project anyway. It was a great source of some fantastic writing! Looking forward to what to come on your site though…

I totally understand where you’re coming from, Suzy. I had to change the frequency of my Shiny Travel Objects series from weekly to monthly because of the time factor. People think it’s easier to pull links together in a post than to write a blog post, but it actually takes me just as long, if not longer. That said, it has been fun reading and being introduced to new bloggers/blog posts here. Thanks!

I’m sad to see the series come to an and, but I’m excited to see what will come next on your blog! And, you chose 5 great posts for the last week!

I’ll miss seeing your tweets on Suzy Stumbles. It was a great way to support the series, but I agree with Gray, hard to maintain when traveling as well. Good luck with future plans!

Ah, I just find out this post today. Disappointed, yes, I love this segment. Thank you very much for having this program! I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with next 🙂

About Suzy Guese

After a childhood of keeping road trips interesting around the U.S, stints in Western Europe as an angsty teen and a study abroad year in Italy in college, I decided to make traveling and writing my way of living. My travels are laced with hints of a redheaded temperament, proof that my hair color is indeed natural. SuzyGuese.com is where I solve packing predicaments, blurt out my travel secrets, rant about nomad injustices and share where the road takes me in hopes that it might take you there too.
