Boats bobbed outside my window on the Bay of Kotor. In between the noise, flashes of light periodically lit up the sky. It was the only light that night, other than my cell phone flashlight and a glowing forest fire on the hill opposite my water view. We sat in the dark for a while, hopeful that the power would return to the town of Perast in Montenegro. We waited and waited, resolving, as my grandmother used to say, that things would look better in the morning. Any yet in the morning, we were still in the dark. I never really had an urge to visit Montenegro. When we decided to visit, it Continue Reading
Could This Be The Perfect Travel Tote? A Look at The Lo and Sons O.G. Bag
The search has been long and hard. It has produced broken straps, bags that couldn’t withstand the contents and that lingering feeling that something was missing. There weren’t enough compartments. I would wish the zipper would go all the way around. After buying what seemed like a $50 tote bag from various chain stores for every trip since I was 18, I finally caved and splurged on the Lo and Sons O.G. bag. Could this finally be the one? A few years ago, I posed the question, “Where art thou perfect travel tote bag?” Many others joined in on their troubles of locating the perfect bag for Continue Reading
The Rule of 7: How I Am Fashionably Carrying On For Three Months in Europe
The first time I traveled to Europe for an extensive period of time, I brought two large suitcases, a small duffle bag and a large tote. Since those early days of over-packing, each time I head to Europe for more than a month, I try to pair down how much I carry. Lugging suitcases on trains, planes and across cobbled cities while dodging tour groups is every traveler’s hellish, sweaty nightmare. Those condensed packing lists advising to just pack two T-shirts, one tank top, three dresses and four pairs of underwear aren’t up any sort of alley I want to be on in the first place. Traveling Continue Reading
Taking The Road Toward Emotional Travel Preparation
Most airlines will send you an email a week or two before your flight with the subject headline, “Prepare For Your Upcoming Trip”. The content is informative, explaining how to check in for your flight, what luggage weight restrictions to know, how to navigate through the terminal, or when you actually take flight. In my mind, these emails are wrongly titled. What can prepare you for travel? Most of us rush out to buy new luggage. We sell our belongings for extra cash. The necessary call to the credit card company must be made. We attempt fitting all necessary liquids into a minuscule Continue Reading
Early to the Airport Traveler or Final Boarding Call Walk-On?
There are two types of travelers in this world, those that get to the airport early and those that arrive minutes, if not seconds, before final boarding. I am far from the latter type of traveler. Around three hours to my flight, I start to develop this anxiety. The clock becomes some sort of captivating TV show to me. I can’t take my eyes off of it, prodding whoever is my airport driver that day to be ready to go at a moment's notice. At two hours to my flight, I better at least be in a car shortly away from the airport. My anxiety doesn’t end there. After saying my goodbyes, I quickly dart Continue Reading

My 3 Best Kept Travel Secrets
The travel chain letter has reached my virtual hands. In case you do not know about this project, Tripbase asked travel writers to reveal their three best-kept travel secrets. I was so graciously passed the torch by Top Backpacking Destinations to share with readers my 3 travel secrets. It seems like a great oxymoron to reveal those secrets in a public posting. The funny thing about almost every place around the world is that someone has looked upon it at some point. We are never the only ones, well maybe in parts of Antarctica or in South American jungles, but that is what is so appealing Continue Reading
