Suzy Stumbles Over Travel: Week of September 26, 2011

September 26, 2011 By Suzy

Back from my road trip and getting ready for New York on Wednesday, I bring you this week’s Suzy Stumbles Over Travel. In case you are new here, each week I ask writers and readers to submit their favorite travel posts of the week. I read each submission, comment, tweet the article on Twitter, stumble the piece on Stumbleupon and place a link to the post on my Facebook page. The following week I select my five favorite submissions to be featured here and the stumbling begins again into the next week.

Just a few things to keep in mind, please only submit one link per person each week. The article should be travel related. Leave a link to the post in the comment box below. You have until the end of the day on Friday to leave your submission. Be sure to follow me on Twitter, subscribe to my stumbles on Stumbleupon and “like” me on Facebook to make sure I give your post the attention it deserves.

The 5 Favorites of Last Week

“Travel Shot: Two Old Ladies in Panauti” From Ordinary Traveler

Submitted by Christy

Christy captures two very different personalities in a telling photograph of two women in Panauti, Nepal. She includes some words about the photograph, lending a bit of a back-story on the expression on the faces you see. However, the image reminds the traveler to always look for the story within the click of a camera.

“An Inconvenient Death” From Man On The Lam

Submitted by Raymond

Raymond shares a gripping story of a bus ride in Vietnam turned tragedy. While I can’t put into words Raymond’s experience, I can say this piece places travel and life as a whole into a great deal of perspective.

“Pictured Rocks in Pictures” From Wanderings

Submitted by Brian

Brian shares an off-the-beaten-path experience at Pictured Rocks Natural Lake Shore in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. While paddling through these natural wonders, Brian captures caves and towering cliffs. The landscape is unexpected for Michigan, making this is a spot that should be on everyone’s radar.

“5 Unusual End-of-Summer Getaways from Delhi” From The Shooting Star

Submitted by Shivya

Shivya lends us five getaways from Delhi and five spots I was completely unaware of until now. From Portuguese ruins, rustic towns, national parks and islands, Shivya presents some compelling reasons to head to this corner of the world.

“One Long Travel Day” From Inspiring Travellers

Submitted by Andrea

Inspiring Travellers outline a typical long travel day in their calendar. From planes to trains to ferries, the traveling duo explains that travel is not as glamorous as those who stay home might think. Every traveler can relate to these long travel days.

Don’t forget to leave your submission for this week. You have until the end of the day on Friday to submit.

In the spirit of World Tourism Day’s theme on culture, I reflected this week on a story from Indonesia that changed my perspective of strangers. Hope you enjoy it!

    Hi Suzy,

Met a fellow tweeter in Paris this year and discovered she makes the most amazing handbags. I decided to have her make me some custom bags for Weekend In Paris friends. They came out amazing and I’ve posted the photos and how we met on my blog. Here’s my submission for this week’s stumble.

    Thanks for reading,

About Suzy Guese

After a childhood of keeping road trips interesting around the U.S, stints in Western Europe as an angsty teen and a study abroad year in Italy in college, I decided to make traveling and writing my way of living. My travels are laced with hints of a redheaded temperament, proof that my hair color is indeed natural. SuzyGuese.com is where I solve packing predicaments, blurt out my travel secrets, rant about nomad injustices and share where the road takes me in hopes that it might take you there too.
