Suzy Stumbles Over Travel: Week of October 24, 2011

October 24, 2011 By Suzy

As an impeding snowstorm approaches Denver, I bring you this week’s Suzy Stumbles Over Travel. In case you are new to this site, each week I ask writers and readers to submit their favorite travel posts of the week. I read each submission, comment, tweet the article on Twitter, stumble the piece on Stumbleupon and post a link to the article on my Facebook page. The following week I select my five favorite submissions to featured here and the stumbling begins into the next week.

Just a few things to keep in mind, please only submit one post per person each week. Leave a link to your submission in the comment box below rather than sending it to be via email, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Your submission must be travel related. You have until the end of the day of Friday to leave your submission. Any articles submitted past Friday will be carried over into next week. Be sure to follow me on Twitter, subscribe to my stumbles on Stumbleupon and “like” me on Facebook to make sure I give your post the attention it deserves.

The 5 Favorites of Last Week

“Photo Friday: competing in a Pseudo-Amazing Race” From Nod’n’smile

Submitted by Nod ‘n’ Smile

Nod ‘n’ Smile details her trip through Western Europe as part of an Amazing Race type competition. Having never heard of something like this, those who have dreamed of competing on the reality show might want to check this out. With wacky competitions and requests, it is not your average trip through Europe.

“Travel Writer Annoyances—Haggling Abroad” From Wandering Justin

Submitted by Justin

Justin shares his annoyance for travel writers and guidebooks that frequently tell you to haggle down prices at markets. He argues that a few handfuls of loose change are not worth haggling for in many cases.

“Only in Texas: Dust Storm Pictures and Videos” From The Country Skipper

Submitted by Sabrina

Sabrina encounters a strange and apocalyptic sight in Texas, a dust storm. Throughout pictures, video and words, she describes this strange occurrence, one you will often only see in Texas.

“Running around Istanbul PT 2—Eurasia Marathon Recap” From Mo Travels

Submitted by Monique

In a quest to run the world, Monique competes in the 15K Eurasia Marathon in Istanbul. While rainy and lacking in spectators, she accomplishes a brag-worthy feat, running through two continents in one day.

“Occupy Berlin: We are the 99%” From Technosyncratic Travel

Submitted by Christy

In this timely photo post, Technosyncratic Travel share images captured at the Occupy Berlin protests. From police behavior to the words of protestors, the piece captures the at times confusing spirit of a movement cascading across the globe.

Don’t forget to leave your submission in the comment box below. You have until the end of the day of Friday to submit.

    Hi Suzy,

Since I didn’t get this story done in time last week, I’m submitting it this week. Since it’s finished now, I may as well submit ‘early’ this week.

A night at the symphony with my mom last week set off a ‘trip down memory lane’ for me, which lead to me revealing who I really was before becoming a long-term world traveler…

About Suzy Guese

After a childhood of keeping road trips interesting around the U.S, stints in Western Europe as an angsty teen and a study abroad year in Italy in college, I decided to make traveling and writing my way of living. My travels are laced with hints of a redheaded temperament, proof that my hair color is indeed natural. SuzyGuese.com is where I solve packing predicaments, blurt out my travel secrets, rant about nomad injustices and share where the road takes me in hopes that it might take you there too.
