From a new year, I bring you this week’s Suzy Stumbles Over Travel. In case you are new to this site, each week I ask bloggers/writers and readers to submit their favorite travel posts of the week. This can be from your own site or another writer’s piece. I read each submission, comment, tweet the article on Twitter, stumble the piece using Stumbleupon and post a link to the article on my Facebook page. The following week I select my five favorites to be featured here and the stumbling begins again into the next week.
Just a few things to keep in mind, please only submit one post per person each week. Your submission must be travel related. Please leave a link to your post in the comment box below rather than sending it to me on Twitter, Facebook, etc. You have until the end of the day on Friday to leave your submission. Anything left past Friday will be carried over into next week’s submissions. I will get busy promoting the articles by the end of the day on Sunday. Be sure to follow me on Twitter, subscribe to my stumbles on Stumbleupon and “like” me on Facebook to make sure I give your post the attention it deserves. Check back here next Monday to see if your submission made my five favorites of the week.
The Five Favorites of Last Week
“Feel the Rush: Rappelling down Vihigaon Waterfall” From Red Scarab Travel and Media
Submitted by Priya
Priya takes us to Vihigaon in India to rappel down a gushing waterfall. All while hanging by a string on a 100-foot wide vertical rock face, this adventurous experience is certainly not for the faint of heart.
“The Road to Terezin” From My Walkabout
Submitted by William
William provides a haunting tale of visiting Terezin, the Nazi transit camp in the Czech Republic. Along with several photographs, he also includes a very chilling video of his experience on the road to Terezin.
“Lion’s Head—By The Light of the Moon” From Rory in South Africa
Submitted by Rory
Rory provides a great deal of incentive to head to South Africa as he makes the trek up Lion’s Head for its views of Cape Town. As he watches the day fade into the night, Rory captures some remarkable images from Lion’s Head.
“Why I Turned Down My Dream Job” From Katie Going Global
Submitted by Katie
A career in travel is often seen as the dream job. However Katie goes against the grain to say no to a job in the travel industry. Her case is a good reminder to never settle for a position below your standards, even if the word “travel” is attached to it.
“The Road Less Traveled: The Natchez Trace Parkway” From Needle Girl Haystack World
Submitted by Laryssa
Laryssa takes us on a different road, that of the Natchez Trace Parkway stemming from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi. Without the distractions of big semi-trucks and fast food restaurants, Laryssa can appreciate this stretch of the south, one littered in historical and scenic finds.
Don’t forget to leave your submission in the comment box below. You have until the end of the day on Friday to submit your entry.
Happy New Year Suzy!! 🙂

Hope you had a good New Year and had lots of fun and partying 😉
My submission for this week is about a bit of news I wanted to share with my readers, and that was that I started a travel podcast. I’ll be talking about travel news, destinations I’ve been to, travel tips I’ve picked up.
I’m also hoping to have guest hosts and interviews on there to if you or any of your readers are interested in participating.

Happy New Year 2013!
wow, great to see so many submissions already!
This week I started up what I hope will be a fun project for many – any and all – travel bloggers called Travel Bloggers BEst Dozen Project… in which each blogger presents his/her best posts of 2012 in 12 different categories. I kicked off the project with my own post of dozen bests… (I mentioned it on the FB groups, too, for anyone interested in joining)
cheers, Lash

Hi Suzy,
My post this week is in memory of Molly Hightower, a victim of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and an utterly selfless traveler. Remember all of the victims on January 12.

Submission from Shelly…
Hi Suzy,
I love your Suzy Stumbles section and have found lots of brilliant and inspriring reads from talented writers here over the past months.
I just posted a story about the centuries-old rivalry betweeen Oxford and Cambridge (What’s it all about? And, more importantly, which city is best?) on my website:
http://thetravelaffair.net/featured-content/oxford-vs-cambridge-which-is-better/
I hope you like it, and decide to stumble it!
Keep up the good work on a great site.
Thanks
Shelly

Hi Suzy,
Here’s a guest post by my Dad who muses about a few dramatic minutes of day-time darkness during the recent Solar eclipse in Tropical North Queensland.
Gotta love the wonders of this solar system of ours.
Enjoy!
