This week's Wish You Were Here photo/photos comes from editor Stephen Bugno of GoMad Nomad Travel Mag. You can also find Stephen at his personal travel blog, Bohemian Traveler. Stephen shares what he captured while exploring Girne, North Cyprus. I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't mind experiencing Girne this Friday. Stephen recounts his rich experience below. We hitched a ride out of the remote Karpas Peninsula, back to Famagusta where we could get bus service to Girne, a beautiful seaside town on the coast of North Cyprus. With a picturesque harbor in a gorgeous setting Continue Reading
Just A Place To Rest My Head
The room I now occupy in Florence functions as a bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and closet all in one. The studio apartment combines all areas of living. Coffee is just two feet from the bed. My new desk where work will take place merges with the relaxation a couch and TV provide. There are no walls keeping one room’s role out from the other. As I chatted with my landlord about the space with 24 hours of no sleep hanging over, she told me how it served as the library of her old family villa. She recounted just where all of the books were stacked against the walls. Today, books Continue Reading
Budapest Wishes You Were Here
It is no secret that I love to find the best views of a city when I travel. While in the heat of the day yesterday I hiked to one of the best views of Florence, Bret from The Jetpacker was reflecting on one of the views he enjoyed of Budapest. Take the funicular up to Buda Castle and suddenly you are 300 feet above Budapest, overlooking the Széchenyi Chain Bridge and St. Stephen's Basilica, where the mummified hand of Stephen, the first king of Hungary, resides. From this vantage, you can spot every major landmark in the city... as long as you don't get distracted by the buskers and Continue Reading
San Marino Wishes You Were Here
San Marino is technically not a part of Italy. It may sit right smack in the middle of the country, but it is its own republic and has been since 301 A.D. That makes San Marino the oldest republic in the world. A state only one-third the size of Washington D.C. is easy to miss, but it shouldn’t be. San Marino’s view of the rest of the world, the rest of Italy, tends to impress. You climb to the top of the town and this is what surrounds. Would you like to have your photo featured here? Email me at suzy [at] suzyguese [dot] com. I will link back to your blog or website. Continue Reading
Colorado Wishes You Were Here
This week, I had the honor of guest posting for Anja of Ever The Nomad. I would greatly appreciate if you could read, comment and/or stumble that post, The Devil Made Me Do It. I ended up taking a hike, so to speak, for this piece. Devil’s Head positions in Pike National Forest, a little over an hour south of Denver. The hike itself is not intense, but the view at the top certainly is. A lone fire station hovers on the top of this rock formation that supposedly looks like the head of a devil. I will have a video coming up soon of the hike, but here is just a taste of Colorado’s devilish Continue Reading
Traveling With Full Passion, Easier Said Than Done
Exactly one year ago on June 8th, I boarded a flight to Rome, Italy. This June 8th, I will board a flight to Rome. No, I am not some weirdly superstitious person that can only fly to Rome on June 8th. It all happened by coincidence, except this time, I hope and know, my mindset, goals, and experiences will be the antithesis of before. I often refrain from getting too personal on this site. I do not think everyone wants to know what I ate for breakfast or what my middle name is. If you do, drop me an email. I would be happy to shell out the dirty details on what falls in my cereal bowl. I Continue Reading
Ortigia Wishes You Were Here
I wrote an article for On UR Way Magazine last week about the lessons I learned while living in Ortigia, Sicily. I would love for you to give it a read, but in the mean time, I thought I would share some views of Ortigia by boat. One of my first few days in town, I took a boat tour around the jutting little old town center of Siracusa. The lighting was almost too perfect, not quite night and not quite day. Seeing the town from the water seemed to yield a greater insight into Ortigia than wandering its streets. No man may be an island, but Ortigia certainly made me want to consider striving Continue Reading
