Struggling to find a WiFi signal from Donegal in Ireland, I bring you this week’s Suzy Stumbles Over Travel. In case you are new here, each week I ask writers and readers to submit their favorite travel posts of the week. I read each submission, comment on the article, post a link to the piece on my Twitter, stumble the article using Stumbleupon and place a link to the submission on my Facebook page. The following week, I select my five favorites submitted last week and the stumbling begins again into the next week.
Just a few things to keep in mind, you can only submit one link each week. The submission must be left in the comment box below. You have until the end of the day on Friday to submit your post. The article must be travel related. Be sure to follow me on Twitter, subscribe to my stumbles on Stumbleupon and “like” me on Facebook to make sure I get to your post.
The 5 Favorites of Last Week
“The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Museum in Kobe, Japan” From Museum Chick
Submitted by Danee
In a guest post for Museum Chick, Dr. Benedict Davies shares the experience of visiting The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial Museum in Kobe, Japan. Coupled with the recent earthquake in Japan, this article made for a powerful read as exhibits are presented detailing the earthquake of 1995 in Kobe, Japan, a disaster in which 6,434 people lost their lives.
“The Rise and Fall of Melanie Ehler” From Odysseus Drifts
Submitted by Melanie
I am always impressed with Melanie’s ability to tell a story and keep you reading it until the very end. In this episode, Melanie deals with falling off of a train in India. The fall, as she puts it, “ a position that only Gumby could comfortably assume,” makes for a travel story we probably all try to avoid, but sometimes can’t.
“Dear Tuk Tuk Driver, Leave Me Alone” From Solo Female Traveler
Submitted by Sabina
Sabina shares her message to tuk tuk drivers and their harassment tactics. She outlines the experience for those who haven’t been to Southeast Asia of being bombarded with offers for a ride from tuk tuk drivers. A simple no won’t do. Being harassed for some service is a common occurrence for the traveler, forcing you to deal with supporting people who desperately need work or fighting to get past just how annoying their persistence can be.
“The Top of Europe” From Itinerant Londoner
Submitted by Geoff
Through one of the highest mountains in Europe, Geoff takes a railway just for the view. Luckily for those of us not able to make it, Geoff shares photographs of the Lower Grindelwald Glacier, the Jungfrau and Aletsch Glacier. The trip seems to be one few take, perhaps for the price, but the views and experience are worth a look.
“The End of the Road—My Final Post for Getaway” From The Green Hair Mermaid Blogs
Submitted by Joy-Anne
Joy-Anne recounts her travels over the past month and the experiences that have filled the time. Not only was I amazed by the subtle and intricate observations she collected, but I also could relate to her final thoughts on traveling alone. “My self confidence in making decisions by myself, for myself, and in reaching outside of my bubble to connect to people, or being ok to sit alone in silence, all those things made this a very special personal journey, a 100% positive experience”. If you need a boost to travel alone, this post will do it.
Don’t forget to leave your submission for this week. You have until the end of the day on Friday to submit.

Hey Suzy, thanks for including me! Love the rest of the selection too – especially Melanie’s one, she writes fantastically and I was wincing in the end – and reminds me how lucky I was to have my one serious travel accident when I was just round the corner from a gleaming new hospital in Thailand

Hi Suzy
I blog about family holidays with my husband and teenage son. We’re a happy little trio when we’re travelling though it’s usually my husband who provides the best blog fodder!
I’d like to submit a post which is from a recent trip to Madrid. How to get a grumpy teenager to take an interest in art galleries.

Here’s my contribution. It’s one of the posts I put up during Blog4NZ earlier this week. It’s all about New Zealand’s Canterbury Region, and has plenty of pictures!
