Suzy Stumbles Over Travel: Week of April 5, 2010

April 5, 2010 By Suzy

No, this is not a post about my tipsy episodes at various bars around the globe. Although, I bet some wish it was. Rather, I want to introduce a new segment to my travel site.

The amount of great travel posts out there can be daunting to keep track of weekly. My main problem is keeping up with these travel posts, re-tweeting them, and giving those great ones the love and attention they deserve.

If you follow me on twitter, you may notice I sometimes ask people to send me some post of theirs that needs a little tender loving care. I promise to stumble (Stumbleupon) the post and review it. I honestly read every piece sent to me when I make the call on twitter. The ones I truly enjoy, I try to comment. Not only do I get to read great travel pieces I have missed throughout the week, but I also have a chance at increasing others’ traffic, giving those little or big travel guys or gals some notice for their hard earned writing.

Keeping a look out for great travel posts left out to sea

Rather than just tweeting once a week and getting a few responses, I thought I would incorporate my travel stumbling onto my site. Many travel writers do a weekly round up of posts they enjoyed throughout the week. This generally brings in some traffic to those lucky selected ones, but I wanted to go one step further.

Every Monday, I will put up a post called “Suzy Stumbles Over Travel”. I will describe a few of my favorite travel pieces I stumbled from last week. Here is where you step into the picture. At the end of each post of my stumbling round up, I will ask travel writers or just readers that have seen a post they enjoyed that week to leave a comment with their favorite and best post of the week. In other words, you can submit something from your own personal travel site or a post from any other travel site. Please keep it to one link per comment and person. Also, leave the link in the comment box rather than sending it to me via twitter, etc. The deadline to submit your post will be every Saturday.

Over the course of the week, I will stumble, review, and try to comment on all of these posts that are submitted. The cycle will continue and I will post my 5 favorites every Monday that were brought to my attention last week. I suggest subscribing to my stumbles and following me on twitter to see if your post is getting my promised attention.

Come stumble around and let me draw attention to those drunken posts, those that get on top of the bar or stage for attention but never get noticed.

Up on stage, crying out for attention like most travel articles do

Great concept Suzy – I love this kind of a feature. Between Pam and her Blog Crawls, Chris’s Travel Blogger Friday and this, it’s great exposure – for the writers and the readers.

I may have to steal the idea, then totally screw it up to be unrecognizable. 🙂

Hmmm…a novel idea! I like it. It’s sort of already working (albeit not in its intended manner) as I have already checked out Wandering Justin up above to see what he had to say about the southwest! Keep up the good work 😉 Should you decide to stumble my way it’s http://www.travelfunnytravellight.blogspot.com. Enjoy!

About Suzy Guese

After a childhood of keeping road trips interesting around the U.S, stints in Western Europe as an angsty teen and a study abroad year in Italy in college, I decided to make traveling and writing my way of living. My travels are laced with hints of a redheaded temperament, proof that my hair color is indeed natural. SuzyGuese.com is where I solve packing predicaments, blurt out my travel secrets, rant about nomad injustices and share where the road takes me in hopes that it might take you there too.
